EXTENDED PROFILE
» APPEARANCE: Fang is tall, dark, and beautiful. With dark skin, green eyes, and black hair tinged with red at the ends, she is quite distinctive and memorable. She wears blue tribal clothing that resembles an Indian Sari, and sports a tattoo (of her Eidolon Bahamut) on her left arm. Her right of course, sports her l'Cie brand, which is burnt white.
» PERSONALITY:
Oerba Yun Fang is a l'Cie from Gran Pulse, a world down under inhabited by monsters and fal'Cie that have never catered to the whims of the people as the ones on Cocoon do. This has left her independent, confident, and fiery. She believes in looking out for one and one's own, and she is fiercely protective of her family, so much that she is not kidding when she says the world can burn if it means saving Vanille from the fate worse than death of being a Cie'th, the horrible monstrosity that is one's destiny if they cannot fulfill their Focus.

500 years ago, Fang and Vanille received their Focus from Oerba's patron fal'Cie, Anima. This Focus was to destroy Cocoon. Determined to see it through to the end so that Vanille would be saved, Fang attempted to become Ragnarok on her own, due to Vanille not wanting to hurt any more people. She failed; however, the two of them were put into crystal sleep for the next 500 years (hinted to be because literal divine intervention).

Upon awakening, Fang finds that her memories of everything relating to her Focus is gone - and her brand is burnt out, in a type of stasis itself. This means that she, at least, is safe from time running out. Vanille is not so lucky. This frustrates Fang to no end and is a source of discontent from her. She even refers to herself as having a few screw loose, and thinks of herself as being defective.

As l'Cie from Gran Pulse, Fang assumes that their Focus has to do with destroying Cocoon in some way. She has no problem with taking advantage of the people on Cocoon in some way or fashion, such as taking their money from them or finding out information from those who don't realize she's from Gran Pulse. She's a little haughty when it comes to them, coddled children who've spent their entire lives depending on the Sanctum fal'Cie for everything, and doesn't understand many of the differences between their cultures (especially with the years that have passed). She doesn't really want to care - the sooner that she and Vanille can figure out their Focus, the sooner they can go back to sleep in crystal stasis, and hopefully get off the damn floating continent.

Throughout the story, Fang is fiercely dependent and left out from many of the group interactions. Unlike the rest of the team, she wasn't raised on Cocoon. Nor is she particularly inclined to care about it. Again, all she cares about at this point is Vanille. All she really has at this point is Vanille.

Vanille is someone who she loves quite deeply, even though that love isn't romantic. Vanille is her family, someone closer than a sister or a best friend. The two have been together through childhood, and because of the War of Transgression and the centuries that have past, the two of them are all they have left of their home on Cocoon. She trusts Vanille above all others, which is why she gets so angry when she finds out that Vanille has been lying to her about their Focus this entire time. So angry that it seems as though she'll punch the younger woman - she doesn't, of course, but she probably wants to. Finding Vanille in the first part of the game becomes something of her Focus, and she'll do whatever it is that she needs too in order to achieve, even if she has to ally with the enemy.

That isn't to say that she doesn't open up to the others. From the start, Fang is relatively open with them. She laughs, she jokes, she flirts, she teases, she even takes a glance at Lightning's breasts without hesitation to check her l'Cie brand. But she knows that she has no place in their world, and she's only helping them to further her own goal, that's all. She keeps her secrets, doesn't try to get personal with them. However, after spending time with them, with Hope's determination, Snow's optimism, Sazh's kindness, and Lightning's … Lightningness. Around them, Fang is made to feel like she's liked and welcomed, and this causes her no end of confusion. She means it when she says she'll destroy Cocoon if that's what it takes to save Vanille, to save all of them, but the rest of them want to save the country.

It takes a while, but she eventually comes to think of them as family as well, and because of that she'll do anything to save them, too. She doesn't want to be left alone if the rest of them turn Cie'th and because of this, she's more than willing to do the dirty work if none of them will. This causes quite a bit of conflict even very late into the game, and causes all of them pain, even her. She doesn't want to be the bad guy, but if it means saving their lives, she'll do it. In Chapter 10, Fang tries to act strong and as though she knows what she's doing, but it's anything but. She's plagued with doubt over whether this is the right thing to do - to continue to go forward with what she feels is their Focus, or to defy it entirely for the chance to forge a new future. This is enough to summon her Eidolon, Bahamut, his task to help her make up her mind or to put her out of her misery. With his help, Fang sees that she can't continue alone like this, and she resolves to join the team fully and to help with their ideals.

She does have a conscience.. Because of the actions that she and Vanille decided to take, including attacking a Sanctum fal'Cie to see what would happen, two unrelated people were dragged into the mess. Serah and Dahj are a source of guilt for her, and while she apologises to their family members, it seems almost as though she can't apologise enough to Sazh for what happened to his son. While the man accepts her apology (in fact, he tells her that it's his own fault for not keeping an eye on his son, not hers), she still looks somewhat upset at having dragged in the innocent boy. She still holds that guilt over Serah as well, though that is somewhat lessened by the punch that Lightning gave her over it.

Overall, Fang is very confident. There are a few things that bother her, such as her Focus, her lack of memory, and the constant time-bomb that is Vanille's brand. But she handles most problems with ease - and the bigger problems can usually be whacked away with her spear. She's definitely very hot-headed, and doesn't bother trying to mince her words or hide her opinion. She knows when to be quiet when it's called for, but she's quick to voice her thoughts when she feels it's necessary - and sometimes, even when it isn't. She's willing to go to Hell and back if it means saving her family, and there is nothing that will get in her way. Despite her frankness, she can still be very cheerful and flirty, teases her teammates quite often, and with a bit (or more) of bloodthirstiness to her, she's a woman be reckoned with.
